Sunsets and Flea Markets in Quartzite

Since we left on Wednesday from Woodland and traveled over 800 miles through Fresno, Bakersfield, Barstow and Needles, we have been able to see the rougher side of California. As we listen to the radio at each spot we stop, on this trip Bakersfield, Pirates Cove in Needles, this seems to be a Trump supporter strong hold. There is great joy from call ins that their guy is in office and doing exactly what they hoped. Seems like many more "Christian" radio stations and Fox News call in stations. They are so excited about the Anti Choice March (my words obviously) tomorrow in Washington and happy in their own facts that their March will outstrip the size of the Women's March. Aside from the politics and the many flags and Don't Tread On Me banners, the country is a dragon's back of rock and flash floods. It takes a tough person to make a life here outside of towns and in the rock.
I have not been much help to Jim on the driving. In theory, I help with half the driving but managed, as we drove away from Woodland, to come down with a nasty cold and cough which has made sleeping difficult and created in me a high level whiner and less helpful partner in our journey. This morning as we broke camp in Needles, the wind was high and cold and Jim was such a sweetie he went outside and did the necessary work to ready the trailer for travel as I coughed and wiped my nose inside the warm cab of the truck. I am doing better this afternoon after having a good nap while Jim made the first scout trip to the Famous Flea Markets of Quartzite, Arizona. It was a productive trip as he returned with gourmet jerky and dried honeydew melon AND beer (drum roll).
Quartzite Home Away from Home on BLM Desert

Thousands of people come to Quartzite, some to park in the desert, some to stay in the $500,000 or more RV's in fancy parks with (gasp) electricity, water, and sewage hookups. We bought our water in Quartzite at the RV Pit Stop. They sell propane, water, wood and all the best things in life to park in the desert and drive in to town to wander the flea markets. Many affinity groups like the fiberglass trailer people, and the AirStream group find pieces of desert to gather in not to mention families and old friends who have been coming here for years.
This area has beautiful Saguaro
Cactus sprinkled about with some beautiful
specimens in Quartzite.
Today the wind continues to blow
Rose is enjoying the trip, she models how to sleep while someone else drives.
but we are promised by the weather guys that it will improve tomorrow. Do hope as we plan to do the flea market justice and look for lots of stuff we can't live without. You can't tell from the picture of the Escape but it is oriented north and south to combat the strong gusty cold wind coming out of the north. This wind is causing conditions which are keeping the poor souls who would normally hang out with friends, talk trailers and spin tales inside in the warmth. Tough duty here in Quartzite.
Choose your own campsite as the options are endless!
